There is nothing better than wearing an outfit you feel confident in—okay, maybe the feeling of being done with the semester isn’t half bad either—but you get the gist. With summer right around the corner, final exam rooms are the last place Fashionistas/os want to be showing off their trendiest looks. The way I see it, though, is if I’m going to be taking a final, I might as well do it in style.
During finals week, I caught up with this Fashionista who was headed to hit the books on the quad. As the wise Rachel Zoe once said, “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak,” and this Fashionista’s look said it all. In a graphic cropped T-shirt that reads “sacred plants of nature,” a cardigan, and cut-offs, she looked adorable and totally confident. I later found out that she is an Environmental Studies major, which adds a personal sentiment to her flowered top and earns her so many points in my book.
Her partially transparent flatforms brought the look together and added an edgy flair to an otherwise standard outfit. Flatforms are having a huge moment right now, and I think this Fashionista did them justice by pairing them with a basic outfit. She kept the transparent theme consistent from top to bottom, sporting a pair of tinted transparent sunnies as well. Going trend-crazy tends to overcomplicate things, so slowly incorporating standout pieces into your go-to outfits is key to feeling confident while venturing into uncharted territory. Other than the transparent accessories, this Fashionista kept it simple, rocking a few layered necklaces and simple rings. The necklaces made the shirt look super-chic and pulled everything together into a cohesive look.
Her casual outfit was so well assembled, but the added thought she put into it is what made it shine. Her look proves that no matter what your style is, it is important to dress for yourself and not always have to play by the rules. Style is all about confidence, and if you are own it, your outfit is bound to stand out from the crowd.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “As a fairly shy person, fashion is my favorite way to express myself. I like to wear clothes that encapsulate my persona, that show the rest of the world what I’m all about. My outfit from today had a little nature feature, because I study environmental science and am fascinated by the natural world. I also wore a couple of sentimental pieces—a necklace given to me by my mom and some hand-me-down shorts from a close friend. Overall, I like to wear clothes that I find unique and that speak to me on a personal level for one reason or another. It gives me a little boost of happiness and confidence to wear something that I don’t just love on an external level, but that I appreciate for its inner meaning as well.”
