There have always been opinions in fashion that certain colors shouldn’t be mixed together. I, for one, used to always be a firm believer to never mix brown and black together, because I felt that the two hues were unappealing together. I used to feel that way about blue and black, too. However, I’ve grown a little older and a little wiser and have realized done properly, it’s more than acceptable.
As I’m coming into my senior year of college (which is a terrifying thought), I’ve learned that it’s untrue that you can’t mix certain colors together. If the colors are somewhat similar, it’s always wise to layer the colors in order to see the difference. Another factor to consider in mixing certain colors is that mixing different textures can go a long way. This Fashionista is wise beyond her years, mixing two extremely different fabrics—leather and denim.
This Fashionista makes a statement with the mix of blue and black in her look. Upon first glimpse, you may think the mix of blue and black is from her jeans and top, but at closer look, her royal blue nail polish and black sandals tie this outfit together. Another thing to take note on this Fashionista is her ability look casual, but at the same time dressed up. What makes this look so dressy is the way she wore her modest black heels. To keep it casual, she donned a pair of light wash skinny jeans. One of my favorite pieces was her simple, yet chic, black leather tank top. The top is perfect for a night out with friends or to even run errands on the weekend. Her unique accessories add an edgy appeal.
If you want to pull off fashion risks and still look chic, New York is the place to do it. Even if you aren’t in the “Big Apple,” that doesn’t mean you can’t dress to the nines. Better yet, put together an outfit that’s out of your usual style, but present a color pairing that isn’t considered very often.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “You never know who you’ll run into, so always look your best, but don’t try too hard. Mascara, lipstick and a pair of heels can go a long way.”
