STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Bargain Beauty

This Fashionista has so much going for her. Not only is she beautiful, stylish and creative, she is also hitting on multiple major trends with this look, and in her own unique way.

I’ve spoken before about my disdain for the New Yorker in head-to-toe black stereotype (it’s just not true!). When executed with style, the all-black ensemble can truly be used as a shortcut to chic. Unfortunately, this is not always the case, and I often find the results to be particularly safe and boring. I think we can all agree that there is nothing safe or boring about this Fashionista’s look!

I love the use of layers and volume, and the consistent midi-length keeps things from feeling overwhelming. The repeat white-on-black prints help to break up the all-black, and this PVC and canvas rain slicker is just everything and more. The black bandana print set marks two major trends found in this look–bandana and paisley prints, and matching sets. Both of these elements have been popping up for a while now on the street, red carpets and runways.

The accessories work to complement this look as well. The neon orange backpack adds a jaunty pop of color, and the silver beaded choker (made by the Fashionista herself!) is a perfectly on-trend final touch. Also, can we please take a moment to acknowledge the perfection that is her hair, because I’m not at all mad at this wild side-ponytail realness that is happening!!!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Spend a few hours at your local Goodwill Outlet Store. This outfit, from head to toe, cost less than $20. And there’s no such thing as trying too hard. I like looking like I worked hard on my outfit because it shows I work hard at everything in life.”
