Listen up Fashionistas—not only are boxy blazers not just for men, but they are not just for boring work meetings, either! Ladies, we do not need to feel obligated to limit ourselves to tight, fitted blazers worn with pant or skirt suits. Blazers are a great alternative to cardigans or even open sweatshirts. They add a little warmth and a layered, put together vibe to any ensemble. Blazers don’t get enough credit—they are so much more than just the usual work attire. Blazers come in all different colors, prints, shapes, styles and fabrics and can be worn with anything from leggings to dresses. A brightly colored or printed blazer is a great way to let some of your personality and style shine.
Today’s Fashionista was truly a girl of my own heart. I spotted her around campus wearing a black turtleneck, black jeans and black boots. While her ensemble was mostly black, she was able to add a pop of color to her look by sporting a bright orange blazer. This blazer was a boyfriend blazer so it was long and loose fitting—very comfortable. It kept her warm enough that she didn’t need a jacket on this spring day. Since she wore the blazer unbuttoned, the turtleneck of her shirt was visible and added more depth to her look. While her blazer was not fitted, her shirt and jeans were tight so she definitely did not get swallowed up. Her simple black boots and round sunglasses added a relaxed vibe to her look.
This Fashionista certainly did not wear her blazer as part of a fancy work suit. She styled it in her own way which created the end result of a casual, comfortable but put together ensemble that would be appropriate for many occasions. She was able to make a fashion statement utilizing just one bold piece. Add a brightly colored or printed blazer to your spring wardrobe and you’ll find endless pairing possibilities! Whether you let your blazer be the center of attention like today’s Fashionista did, or you decide to pair it with other colorful clothing pieces, you are sure to look and feel confident and trendy.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Everything matches black. Don’t be afraid to wear too much black, and if you are afraid, just add a small pop of color with a cardigan, jacket or shoes.”
