It’s finally spring! Despite the mercurial nature of Maryland’s weather, I think it’s safe to say that we are finally beginning to feel the shift from winter to spring. The more students mill around McKeldin Mall in the warm weather, the more opportunities I have to spot a UMD Fashionisto/a! This month, I came across a Fasionisto who I spotted walking out of his dorm.
The first thing that caught my eye about this Fashionisto was actually his shirt. Lately I’ve loved wearing any and all striped shirts, but I usually stick to black and white stripes. When I saw this Fashionisto, my striped-loving heart knew I had to stop him. He wore a short-sleeved collared shirt with a pair of dark wash skinny jeans to give the look a more relaxed vibe. The gray and off-white Vans he’s wearing also contribute to his casually cool outfit.
But enough about the outfit! Once I stopped this Fashionisto, the second (and more important) thing that I noticed about him was his beard. I’ve seen a lot of different beard trends floating around the internet lately (namely glitter beards), and I think that they’re fascinating. As a person who cannot grow a beard, I think its fascinating to think about how a beard can serve as an accessory to different Fashionistos.
When I asked him if I could take pictures of his outfit, I knew that I also had to take pictures of the beard, and let me just say, it was not as awkward or weird as I thought it would be. I would also say that despite the cool watch and shoes he’s wearing, his beard is his best accessory. I see a lot of Fashionistos around campus with facial hair, but this beard was exceptiona.l His full beard really completed the overall hipster, relaxed vibe he was going for. Now, I may have little to no knowledge about beards, but I definitely think that they can be a great “accessory” to any Fashionisto’s outfit!
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “If you can grow a full beard, grow it. Grow to your strengths and avoid patchiness.”
