Clean clashing is the new chic. To be more specific, the color mixture of black and navy (beginning with Calvin Klein’s spring 2015 collection) is the new chic. A sea of midnight blue sashaying down the runway quickly trickled down to the trend setters on the streets. The trend was later repeated in fall 2015 shows such as Elie Tahari’s ready-to-wear collection, which assured the color combo would be with us for awhile. I personally have always shied away from these closely matched hues. But, as Fashionistas/os it’s our duty to mix patterns, clash the colors and take the risk that’ll make us stand out among the rest.
This Fashionista in particular caught my eye as she celebrated the completion of her last final. Not only did she flawlessly combine the color duo, but she also incorporated a mix of textures which took the look to the next level. The slight showing of skin highlights the contrast of textures in her outfit. She then complemented the look with a delicate necklace. She kept it simple by abiding by the motto “less is more.” The Fashionista also incorporated one of my favorite trends—sneakers. This component adds a different element that keeps the look street savvy and sensible. She brings the outfit full circle with a navy Chanel clutch. When asked about her look, she shared how she likes to make sure she wears the look, rather than letting the look wear her. This was evident with her confident personality and obvious sense of knowledge on how to put a personal spin on this season’s hot trend.
The black and navy possibilities are endless as they fit into anyone’s personal style. If you want to start with a more simplistic approach, pairing your dark wash denim with your favorite black tank top is easier than ever! So try it yourself—dare to mix hues while sashaying down your own runway in the city streets.
