Trendy fashion and the casualty of the college campus scene: Every so often there comes a time when it may be seemingly difficult to throw together a look that combines the two. Heading to class, or even just out for lunch on campus, calls for an outfit that is comfortable and simple while also being eye-catching and fashion-forward. By looking to styles of past decades and incorporating them into modern-day looks today, we, as Fashionistas and Fashionistos, are able to put a unique and daring twist on an effortlessly adorable ensemble.
Skirts have changed styles decade after decade—varying in length, cut, fabric, etc. However, one specific trend from in the ’70s has made its way into 2016 with much praise for its return: the button-front skirt. This style skirt is perfect for casual settings but gives just enough edge to be high fashion.
This Fashionista wore a simple, gray cropped tank and a white denim button-front skirt, which she paired with white leather Converse and complimentary accessories, putting the the main focus on the skirt in this outfit. Her her layered bracelets and her thin, beaded choker work well with her minimal, ’70s-esque vibe. The surprising vibrancy of the white-on-grey tones in this ensemble make it perfect for the summer season. Not only is this look effortless, but it also provides a vintage feel translated into modern style.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK?: “This skirt, though basic, adds some detail and unique-ness to an otherwise simple outfit. Don’t be afraid to try out this type of style! The skirt—which is something easy to mix and match with tops for both casual and dressy occasions—is something I feel everyone should posses. It’s also slim-fitting and, in my opinion, works on all body types, which is yet another reason why I think everyone should have a button-front skirt in their closet.”
