As I send love to my Fashionistas/os on the stormy East Coast in hopes they are all staying relatively warm, the weather over here in sunny San Diego remains, well, pretty sunny. With temperatures reaching mid-70’s already, it’s no wonder the students around me have begun to shed their chunky sweaters, turtlenecks and faux fur and stray from the classic darker hues of winter. Vibrant pops of color and daring prints are beginning to bloom throughout southern California as we move rapidly towards the highly anticipated warmer seasons.
This Fashionisto immediately caught my eye as he passed me by on his way home from a long day of new classes. His vivid shirt tucked into a pair of unique, black skinnies (which he stumbled upon on the infamous Melrose Avenue) and paired with some daring socks and thrifted Converse simply oozes cool. When he slung his light wash denim backpack over his shoulder and adjusted his round frames, I knew this guy was a trend-setter.
His thrift shop-loaded ensemble, while extremely bold, remains amazingly cohesive through both his impressive fearlessness towards color and the eye-catching symmetry of his look. He cuffed his sleeves to add a casual element to his outfit and continued the trend by pegging his jeans in order to show off his marvelous socks and high-top sneakers. The cuffing of both pieces truly brings his entire look together in a professional yet amusing fashion that naturally drips with style.
Want to try this fluidly daring trend? Start with a specific element in a piece of clothing that inspires you, such as a wild print or fun texture, and build off of it with equally lively accessories that complement, not clash. Check out a few thrift stores in your area for some original details, and don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone and experiment with a little bit of color, no matter which kind of weather you find yourself in this February!
