STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Color-Block Party

Color-blocking is a trend with some history, making its debut in the 1960s and reappearing in the 1980s. It has recently strutted its way back onto the fashion scene and has been splattered all over the runways and red carpets. While it seems to evoke a spring and summery vibe, lately the trend has been a fun and surefire way to keep the cold weather blues at bay. Amping up your style with multiple colors at the same time can lift your spirits and give you a cheery confidence that will get you through the blistering cold. From single pieced color-blocking to mashing up bright separates or letting vibrant accessories do the talking, color-blocking can give you a modern edgy look with a whimsical touch.

This cool trend can be a great alternative for those who are a little pattern shy and adding in some different textures can take the look to the next level. This Fashionista was headed to class when I spotted her colorful look. She starts the look off with a fun polka-dot sweater with an accented bow. She plays with her textures by adding an emerald green lace skirt. A great way to keep the color changing from head to toe is adding a fun, brightly colored pair of tights. She completes the look with a mustard yellow asymmetrical coat. A brown pair of riding boots pulls the outfit together while keeping it fashionable and functional.

Referencing the color wheel can help ensure that you are matching complementary colors, but when it comes to color-blocking there are no rules! Mix and match, play and experiment, this fun trend is an awesome way to bring out your full creative potential and make you shine bright and stand out on your campus!

WHATS YOUE STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I like to keep my hair and my eye makeup to a minimum when i wear multiple bright colors at once. Of course, adding a bright pop of color on your lips is a great way to enhance your color-blocking look ad bring it to the next level.”
