If you go to Syracuse, then you know I am not alone when I say that around this time of year there is always this faint voice inside our heads constantly questioning, “Why did you pick Syracuse University?” Out of all the schools in America, we picked the snowiest city for many reasons, but one undeniable one we are all guilty of is for the winter fashion. One upside of living in Syracuse is that we get to wear layers on layers and knitted pieces. Winter is upon us, and there are more ways than one to look fabulous without wearing a Canada Goose like every other basic sorority girl. This Fashionista, a junior studying Communication & Rhetorical Studies, has some important insight on unique winter styles that make you stand out.
When thinking about winter fashion, monochromatic or muted color palettes often come to mind. However, it is very rare to see bold colors during this time because people automatically think that winter is not the time to experiment and play with colors. This Fashionista is rocking a hot pink beanie, a statement piece that will immediately draw all the attention to her. To avoid blending in with the rest of your campus, look for outerwear that is not the traditional black, gray, camel, navy or white. Yes, these colors were in for a long time and are timeless, but it is time to revamp your boring wardrobe and invest in a bright colored coat. Throw on a pair of leggings underneath and just call it a day because you are running late to class and at least they are not sweat pants. Don’t be afraid to go that extra mile with a graphic T-shirt that matches your color palette, it will complete your outfit by giving it a lot more edge and attitude.
Unless you have been living under a rock, you would know that the adidas Superstars are coming back like that trend never left. Every single Fashionista/o has them and you need to get your hands on a pair ASAP if you have not already because they are the epitome of the everyday staple everyone needs. I remember my sister wearing them in high school (crica 2006) and me thinking that they were the most hideous shoes ever. Look how far they have come now. They are the perfect balance of the sporty-luxe trend and actual practicality just because they are so comfortable and will go with everything in your closet. Fashion is so interesting and fun in the way that you can never predict or expect the next big thing. It is constantly being recycled and you never know, maybe those Crocs you finally threw out will come back in five years. Just kidding—I hope.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Since fall consists of a lot of earth tones such as burgundy, olive green and navy, I wanted to approach the season with a different perspective. Don’t be afraid to play with loud colors because that’s what’s going to make you stand out.”
