My friends and I joke around that winter season is ostrich season. The streets of Boston are so cold and windy, that you are obliged to guard your hands in your pocket and walk with your head down. The lower it is, the more protected you are by blocking the wind with your beanie, hoodie, etc. While I was walking near Emerson, head down and all, I was freezing and did not know how I was going to be able to take pictures in this weather. Turns out, looking down has its perks! I was drawn to these super cool sneakers with a ladybug print. I have to admit, I hesitated at first because this is my first time photographing a boy for CollegeFashionista, and I wasn’t sure if he would agree. At the end, I ended up taking great photographs and found a new love (obsession) for men’s sneakers.
This outfit is very monochromatic. Playing the blues from head to bottom. However, this Fashionisto played with different materials, textures and prints. I think that a weatherproof puffy jacket goes a long way when living in Boston. The wind, rain and snow got nothing on you when wearing one of these. They are practical and affordable. While I couldn’t even count how many layers I had on, this guy kept it simple and chose a print T-shirt to pair up with his jacket. My guess is that his coffee was keeping him warm, or he has become immune to the cold! Moving forward, I love the style of his jeans. They are straight boot but a little bit skinnier. However, the rolled up hem and slouchy, loose shape gives a cool and casual vibe.
Lastly, I would like to ask two questions. 1. Would you wear a pair of funky men’s sneakers? 2. Do you have them in my size? Sometimes we get caught up on looking only in the women’s department. But there is so much to search through! A men’s blazer can be your new over-sized blazer. Imagine it paired up with a T-shirt, skinny jeans and pointy heels. I used to borrow my brother’s T-shirts but I never thought about borrowing shoes. There are some amazing printed shoes in the guy’s department. The geniuses behind it are plotting against us girls to make the boys unbelievably effortless-chic without them even noticing. While us Fashionistas think through every move when getting dressed. Is it a curse or a blessing?
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Let’s borrow from the boys, shall we? Life is too short to to pick only from the women’s department. You might be surprised with what you can find.”
