No matter what school us Fashionistas/os are attending, we have all noticed a single consistent trend. That trend is ’90s fashion. What was once old has now become new and trendy again. It seems the choker, the bucket hat and overalls have been taking magazines and hallways by storm all across North America.  This month’s Fashionista does an excellent job of modernizing one of the ’90s biggest fashion movements: grunge.  So keep holding on Cher wannabes because this month is all about Daria.
A modern day grunge girl knows that its all about the makeup and hair. Inspired by the punk rock legends of the decade like Gwen Stefani and Courtney Love, this style is known for its dark and dramatic cosmetic finish: a dark lip, heavy liner under the eyes and a deep blush to contour the cheek bones. This Fashionista shows us how to rock a quirky and easy half bun style that pays tribute to the mini-buns coined by early Stefani.
Grunge by nature is a very masculine and aggressive style, but it can be given a soft and feminine touch by opting for a leather skirt rather than a pant or jacket, as well as cropping that iconic graphic T-shirt to show a little skin in the midsection.
The last step to complete any grunge look is a good set of combat boots. As made popular by ’90s stars such as Liv Tyler and Winona Ryder, these chunky pieces will give your outfit a casual but fierce edge. Dr. Martens or those of a similar style, in a dark colour will have you looking like a ’90s teen magazine cover in no time.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “If you want to rock the grunge look, a Fashionista/o can’t be afraid of dark makeup. Contour your face with a dark blush and draw attention to your eyes and lips with purple and black. Then grab your favorite graphic or band shirt and pair it with a pair of ripped jeans or an A-Line skirt. Finish the look with one or more messy hair buns and a pair of combat boots!”
