Giorgio Armani once said, “Jeans represent democracy in fashion.” I personally could not agree more. Anyone and everyone can rock a pair of blue jeans, whether they are skinny or flared, $40 or $400. Not only are jeans easily accessible, but they are also democratic in that they have been utilized throughout history to make political statements. In the ’30s, women wore denim in the west to demonstrate their ability to work alongside men. Later on in the ‘60s, men and women wore jeans to convey antiwar sentiments. While I can’t say that we still choose our denim today with the intention of making a political statement, I do think that we can display a specific attitude with the fit, wash, cut and characteristics of our jeans. That’s what makes them so fun to wear!
As the years go by, we are constantly finding ways to reinvent and modernize our denim. When the summer rolls around, we are quick to pull out our numerous, assorted pairs of denim shorts. This season in particular, I find myself gravitating toward distressed, high-waisted shorts. However, it’s been a few years since Fashionistas opted for a denim skirt to conquer the summer heat.
This Fashionista shows off the perfect denim skirt for today, with a flattering A-line cut and buttons down the front! Her light wash skirt is reminiscent of the ‘90s, giving off a youthful, almost grunge vibe. She has paired her skirt with a black, cropped tank top and a comfortable sandal heel. Her jewelry is delicate and feminine. She chose a layered silver necklace and a thin watch to complement the look.
This outfit would be ideal for any daytime adventure or even a night on the town. The denim skirt is the perfect piece to swap out for your denim shorts for a more feminine vibe. This piece is both comfortable and refreshing after years of living in denim shorts all summer!
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Denim shorts have always been my go-to bottoms for the summer, however, I am in love with this skirt! I think the A-line cut makes it super flattering and easy to pair with a simple top.”
