As you grow up you are bombarded with a set of rules catered towards your stage in life. When you’re a child it’s “don’t touch the stove—it’s too hot!”, when you transition through puberty it’s “be home by 10!” and when you’re sent off to college it’s, “stay in touch! (which really just translates to “or I’ll call you every second to make sure you’re alive”). Yes of course these rules are vital to maintain our parents’ stress levels, but of all those rules there is one small hidden one that has forever haunted me in my mother’s voice, “Don’t mix blue and black.” Although I highly respect my mother’s “rules” and “teachings,” this was just one that begged to be broken. So one day I broke the rules and from that day forward I promised myself to never restrict my wardrobe.
This reason alone is why this Florida State Fashionista caught my eye. Aside from her outfit being a head-to-toe effortless look that broke old school fashion rules, her ensemble screamed, “on-trend.” The black fitted crop top underneath the oversized dark wash denim jacket executed the most proper contrast to the grunge outfit. With the contrasting colors serving as an obvious fashion statement, her denim on denim combination completed this look. The dark wash denim against the light wash, high-waisted Levi Brand Jeans makes this daytime outfit extremely versatile and could be worn into the night. What truly caught my eye with this look were the distressed burgundy Doc Martens. Since the outfit is composed of casual denim colors, the red vibrancy of the boot adds the perfect amount of pop color.
All in all, this ensemble serves to any fashion advice I may have which is, break the rules, be comfortable and don’t be afraid to mix things up. In one word, this Fashionista was effortless.
