This past weekend, my girlfriends and I stayed in and watched one of my favorite movies, The Devil Wears Prada; every time I watch this movie something new jumps out at me. There is an exchange between Nigel and Andy where she is crying over how poorly she is treated by Miranda and he says, “Don’t you know that you are working at the place that published some of the greatest artists of the century? Halston, Lagerfeld, de la Renta. And what they did, what they created was greater than art because you live your life in it.” Every day I see Fashionistas and Fashionistos on campus, and I see art and life blending together in the form of self-expression through fashion.
I spotted this Fashionista on campus and knew I had to take her picture. We got to talking about fashion for a little while and it was evident that she felt the same way I did, and subsequently how Nigel from The Devil Wears Prada did. She pairs a plain blue crop top with destroyed acid-washed denim boyfriend jeans and a pair of flatform slip-on sneakers. Her look is pulled together with a bright pink lip and simple eye makeup.
Destroyed denim is such an important trend because it transitions well during any season. In the fall it’s great because while it’s still warm, the destroyed look looks summery and you can still show a little skin; as it gets cooler out they still look amazing with a sweater. Rocking this trend is an art form for this Fashionista.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Boyfriend jeans are a must for fall. They’re just so versatile you can dress them up and down, all while making a statement.”
