Hey, Fashionistas, it’s back to school season! Back to school is one of the most dreadful and exciting times of the year. It all starts with the back to school sale commercials. Then, it hits you: fun summer days are over and it’s time to return to real responsibilities. However, back to school season does not have to be completely bad. The end of summer is all worth it to see our Fashionistas, who are ready to get back on campus and strut their RAD styles. First day of school impressions include everything from sporty backpacks to fly flats. While it is important to never judge a person based on looks, your outfit is the first thing someone notices about you, so make it count. My tip for back to school wear? Whether it’s edgy, girly or vintage, wear what represents you well and puts your best foot forward for a great school year.
Maryland’s first day of school looked like a runway with so many Fashionistas and Fashionistos on campus. I wanted to take a picture of every person I saw! I was awestruck to see everything from designer book bags to fresh sneakers for the first day of school.
This Fashionista was pleasantly surprised when I stopped her to take a picture. Her oversized denim dress was the perfect size for her! When searching for oversized clothing, it’s easy to go wrong. There’s a fine line between “stylishly oversized,” and not the right fit. You should not try to buy a couple sizes larger than what you usually wear. In fashion today, you can buy purposely oversized clothes, like jackets, blazers or denim.
For me, the highlights of the outfit were the small accessories that I appreciated more after a closer look. For example, one of the small buttons that was missing from the pocket lining of her dress was replaced with a Malcom X button. I thought that was so creative and added a personal spin to this cool denim! Along with her vintage elephant necklace and cool Birkenstock style sandals, her look was perfect for a great start to the school year.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “If I had to give advice on a ‘first day of school’ outfit, I would say to wear something comfortable that you feel confident in.”
