When I think of velvet I think of the sparkly, bright, purple holiday dress I wore when I was five with strapped flats and lacy white ankle socks. I’d like to pretend I didn’t dress myself that day, but I’m starting to think that maybe I had the right idea with the dress. Velvet is no longer the fabric of the holiday dress worn when you were five, or the head-to-toe track suit you wore in middle school. Velvet has resurfaced.
Velvet is a fabric for the senses that is not only pleasing to the touch, but to the eye. Velvet shoes, dresses, jackets and bags have been walking the runway recently as well as the streets of Philadelphia. This Fashionista is rocking a high neck velvet dress. She pairs this trendy dress with matching crimson booties, tights and a gray sweater. Booties are perfect for any holiday or general winter event because they’re comfortable, but still count as heels. This soft dress looks unique compared to the same style dresses with different fabric. The velvet automatically dresses up the look because it’s so different looking and sophisticated. It’s trending not only in dresses, but in shoes and bags. Velvet is a necessary accessory for this winter, as seen in this look. Vogue says, “…but velvet pieces are a lot like diamonds: Whether serious or playful, you have to commit.” This Fashionista has truly committed to her velvet look and will stand out wherever she goes this winter.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “My style advice of the week is for winter, don’t be afraid to mix match fabrics and textures. I was skeptical about mixing this sweater material with velvet, but I love how it turned out.”
