STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Drape It, Wrap It, Twist It, Belt It!

Do you remember one fine fall when Cara Delevingne, Suki Waterhouse, Jourdan Dunn and many more such beyond-our-reach faces graced the Burberry runway? And can you recall what they all had in common? That’s right, the iconic blanket scarf!

As temperatures start to dip, I can’t think of a better time to embrace the return of the blanket scarf. For the uninitiated, this warm and wonderful piece is basically an oversized scarf which can be styled in more than just one way; ‘the loop,’ which is perhaps the most simple because you just wrap it three or four times around your neck; ‘the belted,’ for which you put the middle of the scarf at the back of your neck and pull it over your chest like a halter top; ‘the cape,’ which is when you just let it hang over your shoulders loosely, which can also be turned into the ‘off-the-shoulder wrap’ and ‘the snowman,’ which is the most classic way to tie a scarf—it’s how most kids put a scarf when they build a snowman (shout-out to our favorite, Olaf!).

It’s easier to wear blanket scarves that are slightly more rectangular than square just because of the shape, and as most stylists recommend, it’s always a good idea to find one at least the length of your wingspan, which is usually close to your height. The best part about this blanket scarf trend is that you can restyle it throughout the day—you can do “the cape” when you’re headed out and it’s cold and once you’re indoors, you can restyle that into ‘the loop’ or “the snowman.” Super easy, super stylish!

This Fashionista sure knows how to style this abundance of fabric whilst giving off an effortless vibe. She sports a V-neck classic, white blouse and slightly rolled up mom jeans which allows for her blanket scarf to remain as the main element in her look. The all-white Stan Smiths add to the look’s minimalism, followed by the dainty rings which give it a chic edge.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Wearing a blanket scarf is all about the weather. Believe it or not, they keep you really warm if you wear it right. When it’s not too cold nor too warm, just wrap a scarf around your chest like you would a blanket and you’re all set!”
