As we try to stay on top of what is trending in fashion, I think it is possible to lose sight of what people like to call a “personal style.” We get so caught up in what’s popular and what will be popular next season that we forget the reason we love fashion in the first place. For me, it’s the confidence I get when I love my outfit and feel comfortable in that outfit. This combination of confidence and comfort is when I feel like I’m rocking my best personal style.
This Fashionista definitely knows how to rock a personal style that matches her personality but is also full of current trends. She admitted to me that she likes collars and layers; her style has a feeling of masculinity, though I wouldn’t call it menswear-inspired. Her black mockneck sweater is layered over a blue chambray button-up. Her sweater reminded me of the feminine turtleneck trend currently sweeping campus; its mix between a casual sweatshirt and a neck-hugging sweater is perfect for class. She paired it with dark purple pants and short black boots that help her feet stay warm and stylish while walking through Madison’s many slush puddles. My favorite part of her outfit is her embroidered black beanie that says, “believe in your selfies.” Not only are beanies incredible popular right now, but the saying is punny and hilarious—perfect to show off her personality.
Instead of blindly following trends, take trends and make them work for your style and personality. You will be on your way to building a long-lasting, trendy personal style that is all about you.
