Now that winter is officially upon us, my style advice of the week is *cue drum roll* fake it ‘til you make it. While this phrase can be relevant to a few aspects of life, this advice is aimed towards my Fashionistas/os who currently reside in areas where temperatures tend to stay a little on the warmer side during the winter.
Moving to the west coast from the east coast, my new “winter” weather wasn’t exactly what I was used to growing up, but I still wanted to indulge in incorporating the classic winter staples into my outfits. There was no chance I was going to say “au revoir” to the cable knits, the sweaters, the beanies, the fuzzy cardigans and the winter wardrobe feel.
This Fashionista is sporting one of my must-have items for a SoCal (or wherever you are) winter. A sleeveless knit is one of my go-to items. This staple still makes you feel like you are dressing for the season without being ridiculously hot for your climate. Whether this item takes the form of a sleeveless cowl neck, turtleneck or whatever neckline suits your personal style best, it will sure be put to use this season. The details of this look give this simple outfit a bit of depth. The functional zipper on the side of the top and the lace up detail on the boots spice up this minimalistic outfit in an understated manner.
I love pairing sleeveless knits with skinny jeans and boots, like in this look. You can opt for leather slides or ankle booties. I often find myself pairing this staple with cropped jeans and heels for a dressed up option. You can easily transition this look from shopping with friends to a dinner date just by adding a pair of heels.
Even if you won’t be enduring snowflakes this season, it doesn’t mean you have to miss out on winter knits. Fake it ‘til ya make it, my fellow Fashionistas/os.
