As summer comes to an end and college gets into the swing of things, it’s hard to let go of the carefree, spontaneous freedom we had. Some of us may already have prelims (Cornell’s word for midterms) coming up and the pile of work on your desk may be growing tall. However, I find that the best therapy for tackling a rough week is to dress in a way that makes you feel empowered. Sometimes the tougher you look in your choice of clothes can affect the way you feel on the inside. Throughout my style journey, my wardrobe has always been a way to express confidence to those around me and give me an extra boost from the inside, too.
This Fashionista boasts confidence through a combination of soft and hard pieces that work together to create a fierce and feminine look. She has styled a soft, slinky black tank top tucked into a pair of high-waisted, DIY, distressed Levi Brand Shorts. To keep off the unpredictable chill of Ithaca and rough up the ensemble, this Fashionista has thrown on a black, leather, Moto jacket. To accessorize, she slipped on a pair of Reebok Classics in pristine white condition to create a more casual, street wear vibe. To contrast the hard, street wear look and add a feminine touch, this Fashionista wrapped a soft, printed choker around her neck, inspired by the ’90s trend. Continuing with the ’90s trend, she also threw on a pair of rectangular Valentino sunglasses, a Casio Quartz watch and subtle industrial-like metal stud earrings.
So, what is my STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? Use your strong pieces in your wardrobe for an extra boost of strength and confidence. But don’t be afraid to soften your look with complementary pieces and accessories.
