There is no denying that flannels have been around for ages. Flannels can be traced back all the way to the 17th century where these articles of clothing were produced with the purpose of being highly durable so that workers would feel comfortable in wearing them.
However, that didn’t stop the fashion world from taking over. In the 20th century, flannels and plaid looks became popular, with the flannel being representative of the grunge look in the 1990s.
When thinking back on the start of this trend, I’m reminded of the typical lumberjack with the red, plaid flannel with dark jeans and boots. However, it is definitely not restricted to that style. Instead, it has grown to become a look that could be casual, sporty or even classy! The versatility of the flannel is what led to its rise and dominance of the fashion culture.
Now, even in 2015, flannels are still very much popular with young and old alike! So, why are these flannels so popular? Take a look at this Fashionista here! Although it’s still winter, she is able to pull off this flannel due to its comfort and warmth. A flannel is also a great piece of clothing because you can literally pair it well with anything. Our Fashionista pairs her flannel with a black V-neck shirt and black leggings. She tops off her whole outfit with a beautiful pair of black, combat boots. With her black on black on black outfit, the vibrant pink and blue flannel really pops, which will definitely grab the eye of any person on the street!
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Versatility! Whether it be boots, jeans, scarves, tank tops or dresses; flannels will be the perfect addition to any outfit.”
