You don’t have to be a lumberjack to pull off flannel. Flannel has come a long way over time. In the ’50s flannel was a strictly masculine garment never meant to be worn by ladies. It wasn’t until the ’80s that flannel became more of a unisex garment of clothing. Then the ’90s hit. I’m pretty sure at some point in the ’90s even dogs were wearing flannel. Until Hollister Co. and Abercrombie & Fitch, flannel was mostly worn loose and oversized. But in the mid-2000s ladies were wearing fitted flannel over everything else. The age of fitted flannel is starting to transition back to the big and baggy style of the ’90s. No matter what decade of flannel inspires you, there are a million ways to wear it.
This Fashionista chooses to rock the latest trend of graphic flannel. Stores like Brandy Melville have added text on the back and occasionally on the front of flannels for a more urban vibe. She pairs it with a basic cream T-shirt and gray leggings. She adds a pair of black platform boots to add height to her petite frame. She finishes the look with feminine accessories like a kate spade bag, a layered geometric necklace and a handful of rings. Her look is effortlessly casual yet chic.
Flannel is the ultimate go-to when making a look casual. Given that it comes in so many color variations and textures it’s easy to find something that ties your outfit together by tying one around your waist.
