STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Hey Mama, Welcome to the '70s!

I was born smack dab in the middle of the ‘90s. Although I barely remember any of those years, I still will always feel a deep affection towards everything of the time period. Well, probably because *NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys are still perfection, and I still have nightmares about my Furby. Fashionistas/os, we’re all about to get real close and personal with the trends of the ‘70s this spring. Even though we don’t have a direct experience with the time, our clothing is going to spark a passionate connection. Everything from fringe, bold patterns and colors, bell-bottom jeans and jumpsuits have been strutting down the runway during New York Fashion Week. Might I add, the ‘70s are looking fiery hot. Forget the “tacky” stereotype because our generation has added a chic, modern twist.

Over the past few years, we’ve all watched the fashion world slowly move back in time to keep it innovative and fun. Everyone loves a good blast from the past when it’s done correctly (as long as it isn’t your middle school yearbook photos). While I’m not recommending that we make scrunchies a thing again, restyling the trends from 40 years ago has been a major plus for the fashion world. Designers have been able to put together old and new to create something outstanding that will benefit both the older and younger generation. Designers have a great idea of what worked best back then, and what didn’t, but they also know what works now and what does not. Put two and two together, and you’ve got the next outfit an A-lister will be photographed in.

This week’s Fashionisto brought back the importance of bold colors in fashion. Bright colors were a huge deal in the ‘70s, and bright colors are going to be a major component of fashion this spring. If you’re like me and aren’t a fan of floral, simple bold colors such as this is the perfect way to keep bright and colorful this season, but also preppy. With red being such a classy color, this Fashionisto is showing how our generation is turning funky trends into modern beauty. The red pants complement his sophisticated blue button-down. Let’s not forget about the vintage, matching watch that shows you can accessorize to complement any trend. Also, you can incorporate Disney into any trend because why not? The gray jacket and brown dress shoes top it all off. The ‘70s are killing it with the comeback that’s revamping its stereotype to better than ever.
