Some of today’s biggest trends are influenced by a trend in a different decade: crop tops from the ’90s, Reeboks from the ’80s, cat eye sunglasses from the ’50s and more. But one of the biggest “2015 comebacks” is flare jeans. We’ve seen them on TV shows like Charlie’s Angels and That ‘70s Show, but the fashion world has started falling in love with the trend this past year, with fashion week shows filled with ’70s-inspired pieces. While this trend is getting hot, it’s been difficult to find anyone brave enough to move away from the comfort of their skinny jeans to something “wider”.
Lucky enough for me, I was able to spot this Fashionista sporting this trend on campus and absolutely killing it. But how does she look rad in this trend without looking like she’s going to a themed party? One word: simplicity.
This Fashionista shared that in order to make the look work, you need to make the flare jeans the focal piece—Free People offers some fabulous flare jeans. Try a solid color top to keep it simple but trendy, like her mock neck crop top. Pairing the jeans with wedge sandals or heeled booties can give your legs that extra length. Adding a minimal statement piece of jewelry gives the perfect finishing touch, which is why we are loving her rough cut stone necklace! Lastly, her bag of choice is her navy Fjällräven Kånken backpack which mixes a new trend in with a (renewed) trend.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Try to keep statement jewelry unique but avoid taking the focus off of the focal piece of your outfit. You should never be afraid to try a new trend!”
