STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Kickin' It Old School

Remember when you were about six and your parent dressed you in overalls and skorts? Well, thankfully those days are back, but with a little more style and maturity, of course. No one can deny the comfortableness of skorts or their ability to keep everything covered when the wind blows or when walking over those pesky “Marilyn Monroe” grates. That’s why they’re perfect for every summer wardrobe when done right.

This Fashionista shows how to do the skort the right way. From Abercrombie & Fitch, this skort has a great cut to the front with the diagonal triangle hemline which gives the skort a look of sophistication. The pattern also adds crispness with a cool color combination of navy and white. Then, when the Fashionista gives a spin the back is revealed to have shorts. By continuing the same lined pattern on the shorts the look is elevated to having much more edginess, which is not something I would ever think I would say about skorts. This isn’t just another skirt walking down the street, it’s a skort that is probably so comfortable she could sleep in it! This Fashionista doesn’t stop there though. She pairs a basic white tank top with a fun criss-cross back on top (also from Abercrombie & Fitch) and a great kate spade bag that plays off the blue color used in the shorts. Her shoes also keep with the criss-cross pattern.

So this summer, don’t be afraid to dig into your old tub of clothes and pull out things you never thought you’d wear again—or you can go out and buy a much cuter set of overalls and tons of comfortable, versatile skorts.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “If I’m going to go with something kind of out there, like a skort, I like to do it tastefully. So if you’re stepping out of your comfort zone, don’t go too overboard all at once, take baby steps.”
