Although Barcelona is still holding onto a few last remaining days of summer-like weather, and I’m not yet judged for still ordering an iced coffee, the fall season is officially upon us. As we all must adjust to the beginning of classes and the new leafy fall cups at Starbucks, our wardrobes must adjust to the tricky transition season dressing.
Preparing to go abroad I had the unfortunate task of already addressing these fall-wardrobe issues as I had to consider which summer pieces would take me to the chillier months and which cozy winter sweaters I had to leave behind in lieu of other cold weather necessities. A solution to this problem? Basics. Invest and keep it classic are two tips I give to thee in the coming months as you pick your own staple, basic fall pieces.
It’s important to think of your basics as an investment. If not for quality, the reason that these pieces will help you in the troubling wardrobe decisions fall has imposed upon us. A printed blouse, black jeans, sneakers and a floppy hat will be accessible in any season, so they should last you through all of the seasons.
You might be tempted by the color trends and prints of every season, but if you’re going to splurge a bit on a basic item you want to make sure it won’t be out of style by the time snow hits the ground. Always use texture and subtle prints to add interest, but keep a fairly neutral palette and a classic, flattering fit will have you in love with the same investment pieces month after month!
What’s your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Keep your outfits simple, but always add an element of your own style. Layered necklaces and adding a unique accessory are always my favorite ways to personalize a transition season outfit.”
