Between fashion’s ‘90s revival movement and the looks that recently stormed the Fashion Week runways, it’s apparent that leather isn’t going anywhere. This luxe fabric is being worn by everyone from your fashion-forward classmates to stylish celebrities on the street. Whether you want to splurge on a real leather item, or go the faux route, this is a must-have trend that needs to be incorporated into your wardrobe!
The fall 2015 runways were flooded with leather-clad looks. Alexander Wang’s collection featured leather T-shirts and vests. Women’s Wear Daily coined Trussardi 1911’s recent ready-to-wear collection “Fifty Shades of Leather” because the luscious black fabric was the focus of her entire show. The collection consisted of glossy, leather pleated pants and camisoles made of a light, buttery soft leather. This year’s runway shows prove that leather isn’t just for jackets, pants and booties—it’s a versatile fabric that can be incorporated into every aspect of your wardrobe for anytime of day.
This Fashionista rocks the leather trend on her way to class, proving that you can easily achieve this look without appearing like you’re on your way to a punk rock concert. She shys away from the basic black legging by choosing a sleek leather pair. For footwear, she wears a pair of quilted leather slip-on sneakers. I love her choice to rock two eye-catching leather items. She keeps the combination from becoming overpowering by varying the texture. This Fashionista keeps the look fresh and perfect for the transition into spring by adding a cable knit sweater in a bright blue hue. She tones down and grounds the outfit with an oversized gray cardigan and adds interest and personality with her long, gleaming, gem covered statement necklace.
This Fashionista proves that the leather trend is the trend to wear this season. However, don’t feel like you have to stick to only leather leggings and sneakers. As I mentioned earlier, the variety of leather clothing items is now seemingly endless. You could go the classic route with a leather jacket and jeans or go for allover leather by wearing a leather dress. You could take a cue from Alexander Wang and wear a leather top. I personally love to rock the leather trend by slipping into my go-to leather pencil skirt from Zara. Whichever way you decide to wear the fabric, I trust that you’ll do so like the chic Fashionistas/os I know you all are!
