I know I speak for a lot of people when I say that I love winter fashion. While I could go on and on about my favorite fashion trends (knee highs under tall boots being my present go-to), what I mean when I say “I love winter fashion” is I love the color scheme the season allows…a.k.a. It’s finally okay to wear all black all the time. That’s not to say this doesn’t stop me from adorning myself in a monochromatic garb in the warmer months, but something about black head-to-toe in the cold winter months just feels so right.
The minimization of the color palette on one’s wardrobe does not decrease the palatability of an outfit, an idea perfectly exemplified in this Fashionista’s ensemble. Against her black shirt, dark jeans and little booties, the subtitles are both eye-catching and memorable. The mother of pearl earrings are a beautiful complement to the mother of pearl pendant—items that make this Fashionista’s outfit stand out against the muted colors she otherwise wears.
I feel as if a lot of people think of jewelry as the more minute details for an outfit because the pieces often are so small. It’s important to see that in outfits like this one, a pop of colored denim is striking, but only because it is contrasted by both the remaining dark pieces in the outfit as well as the brighter, lighter stones and jewels. Ornate adornments have recently made a return to the runway—with equal parts beauty and simplicity, it’s easy to see why.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I’d say the way I make my outfits stand out is with my jewelry. I’m really into gemstones and crystals and all the jewelry I’m wearing are gemstones in some form or another. Both my necklace and earrings are mother of pearl, which is one of my favorites. I also love playing with shape as geometrical pieces are really in right now. These earrings are triangular cut and the necklace is round.”
