When I saw the Fashionista on campus, though it’s hard to categorize her style, the beauty of her style’s simplicity attracted my continuous attention. When talking with her, her easy going personality and choice of natural clothing together created and delivered such a comfortable feeling, which reminded me of the Mori Girl style, a fashion that first emerged in 2007 in Japan. Mori means “forest” in Japanese, and the style’s concept is “a girl who looks like she is living in the forest.” So the looks of Mori Girls are natural and ingenuous.
Taking a closer look at her outfit, comfort seems like a top consideration when she picks clothing, which is reflected by the cotton T-shirt, the soft denim of the high-waisted shorts and the fluffy jacket. What make these comfy items stylish are both their classic designs and the Fashionista’s creativity in cloth-matching. As for the designs, take the T-shirt as an example, the blue hem echoes the denim shorts in color and decently embellishes the plain T-shirt. The minimal art delivered by her style clicks to the natural Mori Girl fashion. I especially love how there is no pocket on the T-shirt at the chest level like some common T-shirts. Imagine, if there is a pocket, the visual crowdedness coming along with it will make the look of upper body unorganized.
As for the classy matching, I love how she has thorough understanding of interrelationship between each item. Like I mentioned before, the blue hem chromatically interrelates with the blue denim at the bottom. The white area of the T-shirt also interrelates with the sandals’ white in the same chromatic way. The accessories show her distinct personality and add the modern touch on the Mori Girl style. The refreshing and cool feeling is generated from white sandals and silver nail polish. While the necklace and the singe ring contribute the light metallic texture to the clothing’s simplicity. Thanks to such simplicity of the T-shirt, the customized necklace of her name stunningly pops out and becomes the key accessory.
Take some inspiration from the modern Mori Girl style and keep your look natural and effortless.
