One of my favorite looks is monochromatic outfits. Generally, people take this trend with all-black attire (and often Instagram their outfit and caption “all-black everything”). But this trend can be used with other colors such as all-white, all-blue or like Carolina Herrera’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection, all-red. I’ve always loved monochromatic outfits because of the way it makes one stand out. Whenever I see someone on the subway wearing all-white, I always think of the DeJ Loaf lyric “Rock that all-white, when I’m feelin’ Godly.” In my opinion, I don’t think monochromatic looks are in full effect when wearing a white dress and white shoes. What I love most about the fall is layering, and that’s when monochromatic are successful.
So, how do you take this trend and add your twist to it? This Fashionisto showed us the way. Decked out in everything Banana Republic, the main element of his outfit was a gray T-shirt and chinos, and he was ready to take on a day in the city. By dressing up the casual look, he added a black blazer which added much sophistication to the look and also brought the outfit together with the gray pinstriped cuffs. Completing this look with leather oxfords, this outfit was a 10/10 in my book.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “When it comes to monochromatic looks, you can always get away with all-black. But sometimes, change it up. That gray T-shirt dress you never wear? Pair it with a gray blazer, slip-on sneakers, gray/silver accessories and you’ve got yourself a monochromatic fabulous look for the fall. Don’t be afraid to step out of the all-white and all-black safe zones.”
