You know it’s winter in New York when you find yourself in a sea of people drenched in all black and a little grey. Color typically does not find it’s way into a New Yorker’s winter wardrobe as we all find that we have an abundance of monochromatic hues in our closets.
When I first moved here, I had already been embracing the anti-color wardrobe wearing all black, gray and white, especially in the winter, with very minimal pops of color. As of recent, I’ve found myself wanting to stand out from the crowd and embrace a subtle pop of color.
This Fashionista does just this by taking an ensemble in the danger zone of being entirely black and grey and adding pops of lush gold tones and textured fabrics to really spruce up the monochromatic closet.
In the freezing cold weather we’ve been having, a luxurious faux fur coat is ideal. She pairs hers with basic black skinny jeans that feature a golden ankle zipper. Maybe this detail sparked her inspiration, but she adds the perfect addition by finishing the look with various gold pieces. A golden camisole reminiscent of the nineties’ brings the look to life with added sparkle.
Her shoes are in my opinion, the best part of the whole look. Reminiscent of modern day rock gods, her thrifted slip-ons feature a textured gold print with added gold detail on the back and a funky, clear heel that adds just a slight push of height. She adds a personal, quirky touch with golden earrings in the shape of an angel playing a trumpet. Gold eyeshadow and a rose lip are added for an all around golden flush.
What’s your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t shy away from a little color experimentation in the winter. All-black is easy, so try spicing up your outfits with pops of color!”
