STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Nature's Colors At Their Finest

Hey fellow Fashionistas/os! We are in the season of winter where rain, gray skies, hot chocolate and wet leaves dominate. It’s colder now, and just because it’s cold, doesn’t mean that throwing on a hoodie and jeans can solve your style problems. In fashion, it’s universally implicit to wear dark colors during the winter. Of course, that doesn’t mean wear black every day. Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean it has to be the end of color!

So what to wear besides black? According to Fashion Snoops’s trend forecast for winter 2016, olive is still a go-to color! Olive has gray undertones that allow it to act as a neutral when paring it with other colors. A lot of earth tones complement each other so don’t be afraid to mix colors. It’s really hard to go wrong and clash with this color scheme!

So how do you rock this color palette? What better example than a Fashionista who embodies this trend? This Fashionista describes her personal style as “natural, understated chic” which entails muted tones like grays, whites and tans, but incorporates various textured pieces of clothing to liven up her outfits.

Pictured here in her outfit is an olive green utility jacket over a loose gray top, blue denim jeans and gray suede booties. She accessorizes her outfit by adding a two-tiered necklace, a watch and a suede and snakeskin textured bag. As a student on the go, this Fashionista loves to be comfortable, but still look chic. Her look brings the element of the “girl next door” effect: flirty, approachable and well put together, but still conveys a sense of the cool “it girl”.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “There’s so much you can do with a natural palette to make it interesting, but still do it justice. Try mixing different textures into outfits and incorporating different shades of the same color.”
