STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Not Over Overalls

When roaming the Great New York State Fair this past month in Syracuse, New York, I came across this Fashionista rocking one of the greatest trends of the season: denim overall shorts. Even though classes have started and fall is in the air, the temperatures have still been brutally hot in what has been deemed the snowiest school in the country. While we patiently wait for cold weather fashion, this Fashionista has mastered the art of staying cool while still keeping up with the latest and greatest trends.

If you didn’t already know, the ‘90s are back. From multicolored scrunchies, to tattoo chokers and itsy-bitsy crop tops, it’s clear when looking across college campuses that this trend isn’t leaving anytime soon. Celebrities like ‘N Sync, TLC and the Olsen Twins have all rocked the overall trend back in the day, but now style icons like Olivia Palermo, Rihanna and the Kardashians are all taking the ‘90s signature style to the next level. Overall shorts are becoming the new romper. Since they can be extremely casual, they are styled best when you want to look put together but not let anyone know that you did indeed plan out your ensemble in advance. Overalls can be purchased in both high and low end stores in a wide arrange of colors and patterns including structured black, floral and, of course, the classic denim.

This Fashionista wore her light wash, Aztec-inspired overalls plain and simple. She styled the overall shorts with a high-neck crop top in a dark color to add some contrast to her look. Because of how trendy the overalls are, she kept her accessories at a minimum: black Ray-Ban Wayfarers, a simple ring and comfortable Rainbow flip flops. As the temperature shortly falls, take this stylish piece into colder weather by adding a woven turtleneck and some patterned tights. With a great pair of chunky boots, you’ll be able to rock these overalls until December.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Less is more! When running from class to class, sorority events and extra curricular activities, I do not want to be fumbling around with loud jewelry or uncomfortable shoes. Choose a statement piece and stick with it! Keep the rest to a minimum.”
