STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Not Your Average Pants

Long gone are the days of only wearing activewear to the gym. Recently, fashion trends within the activewear industry have started to align more closely with the fashion trends in everyday clothing, and as a result has been incorporated into everyday style. The “athleisure” trend has been quite long-lasting and doesn’t seem to be leaving anytime soon. Whether deciding what to wear to the gym or around campus, athletic clothing seems to be everyone’s go-to.

Wearing workout clothes does not mean the outfit can’t be fashionable. A lot of the activewear brands have created patterns and silhouettes that mimic other current fashion trends and vice versa. Athletic clothes have become increasingly experimental with different patterns and color combinations that has translated into the fashion world. More and more often students on campus have been wearing bolder patterns, and a mixture of activewear and everyday clothing. During the school year it is important (at least to me) to be comfortable during a three-hour lecture about business ethics; as a result, wearing jeans just isn’t an option.

Although classes have ended for the summer, this Fashionista decided to opt for a comfortable outfit by mixing activewear and everyday clothing in order to create this fashionable look. The star of the show in this outfit is most definitely the pants, which happen to be the piece of athletic wear that is incorporated into this look. (Anyone else surprised these pants are from lululemon?). The jogger silhouette is a shape that has become more popular in men’s and women’s pants in the past year, which makes it easy to be comfortable and on-trend at the same time. The stiffness of the chambray shirt complements the bagginess of the pants to make this outfit appropriate for shopping, lunch or class! The white handbag and shoes dress up and brighten the outfit. Finally, she kept the accessories simple by pairing a leather strapped watch with a Fitbit.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t be afraid to mix trends: my personal favorite is athletic and leisure together. Also, wear what you feel comfortable in and what makes you feel like you can go out and get stuff done!”
