Since we were little, I’m sure we can all remember being taught the proper way we should dress. Being put into tutus, bows and pink is something unavoidable for young girls unless you happened to be born to Victoria Beckham or Kim K who dress their daughters like mini Madonnas. It’s only natural to think of these cutesy stereotypes when we think of being a girl.
There are the ones of us that grow up continuing their passion for pink and sequined styles and then there are the ones like myself and my Fashionista of the week, because honestly sometimes it is just more realistic to run the town in our Stan Smiths instead of Pradas.
Before Miley Cyrus and Nicole Richie snatched their pairs of mom jeans, we saw early trend-setters like Marsha Brady and DJ Tanner blazing the trail. Today, this Fashionista decided to pair her favorite high-waisted jeans, which Topshop did a spectacular job making equally flattering and trendy, with her spunky skull graphic. She wore just a simple pair of Chelsea boots, which are such an important wardrobe staple. I recommend investing in a couple good pairs because these bad boys can pull together an outfit like no other. For details, she threw on some fun artisan bracelets to add some color and a slight feminine touch.
So, who runs the world? I hope that all of you just yelled “Girls!” either in your head or preferably out loud just as our good friend ‘Yoncé taught us. Although I agree, this week my advice is to ditch the dress and dare to run the world in denim.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Early morning sartorial decisions are hard enough as it is. When in doubt, don’t let stereotypes affect your choices. Go with your tomboy-tendency driven gut.”
