This spring, I have been on the hunt for an oversized denim jacket. Denim jackets have been popping up everywhere, from the runway to campus; it’s like a dream come true for someone who loves the style of the ’90s as much as I do. Naturally, I had to share how to style this timeless trend. I envy this Fashionista’s distressed vintage Levi Brand Jeans jacket; the jacket is destroyed just the perfect amount to avoid looking too ratty. This Fashionista complements the denim jacket well by layering her look. The simplicity of a plain gray dress from T.J.Maxx over a black Free People slip helps to make the jacket the focus of the outfit. The lacy layering of the slip also gives a nice feminine touch to an edgy look.
My favorite part of this outfit is how the vintage, thrifted statement necklace resembles a bolo tie and brings everything together by incorporating a western-looking accessory that complements the worn-out Bed Stu for Free People boots and semi-destroyed denim jacket.
My advice for a searching for a denim jacket is to check out local thrift stores, Goodwill or stores like Urban Outfitters for one that is oversized. Look for one that isn’t too destroyed because you can always change that and destroy it yourself. Don’t be afraid to look in the men’s department, either.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Spring is tricky—the weather can change in a snap, so always work in layers so you can adjust your look throughout the day for maximum comfort and style.”
