If you have been paying even an ounce of attention to the street style of every model, blogger and trendy celebrity from New York City to Paris, then chances are you might have seen a trend occurring. Hordes of fashionable women and men have been dawning reconstructed jeans, oversized bomber jackets and voluminous graphic sweatshirts. All of these looks can be attributed to the new but wildly popular brand Vetements (pronounced vet-MAHN).
Vetements, headed up by Balenciaga’s creative director Demna Gvasalia, presented its first collection in 2014. Since then, the ready-to-wear brand has been creating major waves in the fashion industry. Gvasalia’s designs have been reinventing what is seen as high fashion.  Vetements has become famous for deconstructing existing garments and making new ones with the material of the former ones and making garments that are far too big for the body. The brand has brought about a completely new silhouette and style.
When I spotted this Fashionisto on the street, my mind immediately went to the Vetements collection for spring 2016. That season, the brand designed an oversized raincoat with the word Polizei, the German word for police, on the back. This Fashionisto styled his version of an oversized raincoat with a pair of khaki pants and a gray sweatshirt. To complete the look, he added a backwards baseball cap and a pair of Yeezy sneakers. This outfit cleverly mixed streetwear and sportswear.
While Vetements is a high fashion brand and therefore quite expensive, there are plenty of cheaper alternatives to achieve a very similar look. Oversized outerwear is one of the main themes that runs throughout all of the Vetements collections. H&M, Zara and Urban Outfitters are all great places to buy trendy outerwear. Try a bomber jacket, jean jacket or trench coat in an extra-large size to achieve the Vetements look. You can also layer a turtleneck or chunky sweater underneath to stay warm during the winter months. No matter which way you style it, oversized outerwear is a major trend this winter thanks to Vetements.
