How is your pattern mixing? I can honestly say that if I were to take a class in it, I would probably end up with a C. I have been into solids lately, and layering those is always so much easier and safer. However, this Fashionista feels the complete opposite. Let’s check out her mad mixing skills, and learn a few tips.
Here, the colors look great together, making the patterns look as a whole piece. The button-down goes with anything. It has simple black and white pinstripes. Notice how bright and vibrant the skirt is in this watercolor print. Abstract prints are always easier to mix and match than, say, paisley or chevron. And it has pockets! What did we ever do without them?
The neon turquoise statement necklace balances out the top of the outfit, making the eye travel when you see a person wearing this look. (No wonder she caught my eye!) Different size patterns are also easier to mix. They help the outfit look less busy.
Another way to break up a patterned look is to add in a solid. We see it here with the black wedges and the statement necklace.
Matching patterns is one of the best ways to spice up any look. Whether you are going to class or just hanging out with friends over the weekend, patterns can make you stand out when done right.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t be afraid or intimidated by patterns! Mix and match smaller simple patterns like herringbone with brighter more abstract ones. Add bold accessories, and you have your look! And remember—often pieces that you think won’t go together end up looking the best!”
