Whenever back to school rolls around, I always feel like I see plaid everywhere. It all started when I went to private elementary school with green and blue plaid skorts, and the trend has survived all the way to college with the more recent flannel infestation that has been taking over campuses everywhere. No matter what, plaid always seems to find its way back onto the trend forefront.
As I was leaving class the other day, I stumbled upon this Fashionista. At first it was her red, plaid school girl skirt that caught my eye, but it was also the way she styled it that stopped me to ask if I could take her picture. Typically when someone has a plaid element in their ensemble they pair it with neutral pieces to keep it from looking too busy. However, this Fashionista decided to pair it up with a neon sports bra and a classic denim jacket, and finished off the outfit with a striped Penny skateboard and white sneakers. I was convinced that at least one component of her outfit had to be vintage, but I was surprised to find out that she had gotten everything from everyone’s budget-friendly favorite, Forever 21.
I would have never thought to combine these elements together, but after seeing this Fashionista look like one of the coolest girls on campus, I think I might have to try this look for myself.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “My style advice for the week would have to be to spice up a skater skirt with a nice sports bra. In my opinion, this really works well together, whether you have a long torso or not. Those two pieces really compliment one another!”
