STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Preppin' for Fall

What a wonderful time to be in New York City! Summer’s winding down, the temperature is starting to cool down and all sorts of great new fashion is slowly emerging. This is truly what fall is supposed to feel like… right?

Meet this Fashionisto, the most vibrant, cool and chic guy I know. He’s also a fellow communications major here at Pace University, and when I first met him, I was totally awestruck by his sense of style. Normally, I’m not one to wear preppy looks but he sure knows what he’s doing, and I really want to share his amazing trendiness with you.

The most eye-catching element of his outfit is without a doubt his sweater. I love the varsity-like neckline and sleeve cuffs; they make his entire look pop. I’ve been noticing this trend appear and disappear, but I’m totally ready to bring it back into the loop this fall. For men, you can find a similar jacket here that works well. And for all my girls who are prepared to rock some preppy-chic this fall, here’s a similar sweater for you (and you better believe I’ll be wearing this, too!). The reason why this trend might creep in this season is because even though fall mainly consists of blacks, greys, whites, olive and camel/beiges, there’s got to be a little variation. Varsity collars, necklines and sleeve cuffs add just the right amount of pep to your step without overkilling the finesse of minimalism. And in my opinion, this Fashionisto works it effortlessly. Guys (and girls alike) take notes. If you’re aiming to recreate this look, here’s a men and women’s watch similar to his classic Rolex. And as for the shoes, Vans are always great to pair with an outfit like this; it gives the outfit a more casual tone (just like this Fashionisto did). This pair will do just the trick for both boys and girls.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Being bold isn’t always my first choice, and it doesn’t have to be yours either. But adding some pattern and color through varsity stripes will never hurt your style, preppy or not. They’re easy to dress up or down, and if you pick a sweater like this Fashionisto did, you’ll also stay pretty cozy as the temperature starts to decline.”
