In recent years, velvet dresses, skirts and tights made a major comeback. It was like every corner you turned you were swarmed with an array of velvet clothing in an assortment of colors, but it seemed as if this trend only circulated during the cooler months, right? Think about it, how many of us would really be bold enough to wear thick velvet in 90-degree weather? Well, this bold Fashionista, a sophomore political science major, found the perfect balance of the two.
Initially, I was intrigued by this outfit because of the bagginess of her pants, but as soon as I realized her shirt was velvet I had to approach her. This wasn’t your typical box T-shirt; instead, it was a super cute crop top with cutouts on the sides. Genius! Having this very summery crop top in a non-traditional fabric made this Fashionista stand out from the rest. Also, adding the black pants instead of vintage high-waisted shorts took this outfit to another level. The icing on the cake, though, was her ultra cute booties. Booties are a staple shoe to wear if you want to add a certain “oomph” but don’t want to commit to wearing six-inch heels. All in all, she was definitely serving us with a “casual slay.”
This Fashionista definitely styled this outfit great, but if you wanted to spruce it up even more, a gold necklace and gold watch would be great to accent the gold details in the pants. To dress the outfit down: alternate the black booties to a pair of high-top white Converse, put your hair in a messy bun, add a satchel and a dark lip. With these changes, you can go from ultra girly to tomboy-chic in a matter of minutes.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “You can be luxurious even in boiling weather.”
