STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Rockin' the Color Blockin'

When it comes to the color palette transition between spring and summer looks, the perfect color-blocking combo can be the key to an effortlessly fashionable look. I grew up being told that I was supposed to match my outfits perfectly, so color-blocking has always been a challenge for me. Thanks to the details and secondary colors of my blouse, this bright and funky outfit allows me to do both! This look is trendy and versatile—perfect for a day out with the gal pals or dressed up for a nice dinner with the fam. The complementary colors, coral and royal blue, play off of each other’s opposite cool and warm tones. What really makes this outfit (and any outfit involving color-blocking for that matter) is how I’ve accessorized it in order to maximize complete and utter chicness.

Because the bright colors of the outfit already draw a lot of attention, subtle and simple accessories are always a great route to take. I paired this graphic blouse with a pink, plastic chain link statement necklace. This light pink necklace perfectly complements the neon pink of the blouse, and helped play off the graphic patterns of the top. I also accessorized the look with a classic gold, chunky watch and simple Alex and Ani gold bangle bracelet.

To complete the look, I decided to pair the bright outfit and simple jewelry with a fun, fringy cross-body bag. Because it was a neutral cream color, it didn’t take any attention away from the color-blocked outfit but also added a boho edge to the ensemble. Finally, I paired the summery look with a simple pair of pointed-toe beige flats. These shoes are one of my staples—you can never go wrong with neutral flats!
