Much like the common myth that you shouldn’t wear white after Labor Day, many people assume that you can’t wear denim-on-denim. I used to be one of them, and would cringe at the thought of pairing my denim button down with jeans. However, in the last year I’ve discovered that there are actually stylish ways to rock double denim. Not to say you should be emulating early 2000s Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears, but with the right combination of denims you can create a perfect ensemble.
The key to pulling off denim-on-denim is contrasting light with dark. For example: if you have a pair of dark wash skinny jeans, pair them with a light wash denim button-down. Adding a brown leather belt aids the contrasting effect even more. For an outfit that is more suitable for the summer, try pairing white jeans with an off-the-shoulder denim top.
This Fashionista rocks a pair of white jeans that provide the perfect contrast against her flowy chambray top. The cropped length of the jeans is more summer appropriate and also better displays her wedges. To complete the look, she adds a stack of beaded bracelets and a brown leather tote bag. This ensemble is perfect for going out for dinner, and if you swap out the wedges for sandals you could create a more casual vibe for going to class.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I love white jeans because of how versatile they are. I can style them more casually for work or I can pair them with cute blouse and wedges for a night out.”
