Summer heat is officially upon us in here is College Park, Maryland and I just cannot get enough of this summer fashion. Whether you’re hitting the pool, an afternoon cook out, or even heading to that dreaded summer class, you can always be a Fashionista/Fashionisto in the summer heat.
I spotted this amazing Fashionista on campus who said she was on her way back from a protest. She was delighted that I took notice in her style and was excited to give me her summer style advice. I will start with the statement piece that caught my eye, her camo pants. I loved that they were joggers and were made of mesh so they were very light weight and good for summer. Her simple white top kept the look very clean and unified. Also her accessories were on point including her mix matched earrings, assorted rings and awesome fedora that matched her fly suede shoes.
This week’s style advice was inspired by this Fashionista who had some great style tips for summer. Therefore, I want to review some do’s and don’ts for a sizzling summer day that this Fashionista gave me. The first do is: do wear chiffon maxi dresses with cool patterns. The chiffon material is airy enough to keep you cool on a hot day. Also, the newest trend with the high slits are great for showing a little skin. Don’t wear clothes three sized too small. It happens to the best of us; you have now outgrown your favorite crop top and it is time to say good bye. Please do yourself a favor, and go buy a new one. Do get a halter bralette. This is definitely one of my favorite latest trends. Bralettes look great with plain loose fitting tanks and off the shoulder shirts. They also come in every color imaginable and look amazing. Don’t just wear a bralette as a shirt. Unless at the beach, festival, or pool, a bralette should be worn under another shirt. This last do and don’t is for the Fashionistos. Do get a cool pair of cool Vans, Nike or a similar shoe that is lightweight and airy that you can wear to the beach or pool. You will need a pair that can match with almost anything so I would suggest a neutral color like black, white, beige or brown. Don’t be afraid to wear over-the-knee shorts. They look awesome, keep you cool and they come in a variety of colors. Take a fashion risk, Fashionistos! You may like it.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? This fashionista says her style is super vintage and thrifty and suggest summer style lovers to some of DC’s greatest thrift stores to grab some of your summer must haves included in my Do’s and Don’ts list, which this Fashionista helped me write.
