Classes have finally started here at Queen’s University, and in Kingston, Ontario, September calls for wishy-washy weather and layers. Lots and lots of layers.
I used to think that your clothes were the only things you could layer if you wanted to put together a prime outfit. Turns out, layering isn’t just for clothing, but for accessories too!
Layering provides an outfit with lots of depth and dimension; it gives it complexity without a Fashionista/o having to wear complex pieces.
This Fashionista was serving major looks when she decided to ever so casually slay (layer… slayer… get it?!).
The duster coat works with the September wishy-washy weather vibes; if it’s breezy, throw the coat on, and if it isn’t, take it off and send casual summer vibes with a simple white tank top. The slightly cropped tank gives the outfit some personality and sends a fun vibe, while the boyfriend jeans scream comfort (and let’s be real for a second— comfort is exactly what you need when you have to sit through those long lectures).
I really appreciated the colors in this outfit; it’s important to remember that black, navy and white are not the only neutrals in the world! Notice how our Fashionista chose denim, white and olive to be her “neutrals.” The earthy tones totally compliment the season. And the only pop of black in the outfit is from the lil’ booties we’ve got… this lack of black is so refreshing! The booties definitely make the outfit very versatile; you could wear this to class, the mall or even out to dinner!
Now, let’s talk about how this Fashionista used jewelry to her advantage. As a senior in university, she definitely schooled us all when she gave her outfit a chic sort of complexity with some beautiful silver accessories! Not only did she layer her clothes, but she also layered her necklaces! Talk about effortlessly chic!
All in all, this outfit is all sorts of perfect. Layers give an outfit a wonderful complexity and versatility, which is exactly what a student needs for September; the weather is constantly fluctuating, and sometimes you just don’t have a lot of time to put together an extravagant outfit. Keep (s)layering, y’all!
