With Converse unveiling their new Chuck Taylor designs this past week, I’ve had sneakers on the brain. It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of the “ath-leisure” trend and can be found sporting some sort of tennis shoe on most of my days. With that being said, styling sneakers can sometimes prove to be a little complicated. There’s a fine line between looking like you just left the gym and looking like a Fashion Week street style star. This week I hit campus looking for someone who perfectly executed the sneakerhead style, and I was more than excited when I stumbled upon this Fashionista.
First of all, I’m obsessed with her Vans. The perforated leather and black laces are a cool modern update to a staple shoe. If you don’t have a pair of Vans yet, I’m lusting over this pair, and I think they’d be the perfect fit in almost anyone’s closet! The best part of this ensemble, however, has to be the juxtaposition. I love that this Fashionista chose to pair skater sneakers with a girly skirt and crop top. It’s so hard to find good skirts that go well with tennis shoes, but she nails it with this slightly above the knee getup. Her backpack helps tie the entire outfit together, adding the perfect splash of sportiness back into the mix, while her sunglasses steer towards the feminine side. By keeping with a solid color pallet and mixing in a gorgeous floral print, this Fashionista stands out in the summer. I fully embrace trainers for the functionality, but when paired with an outfit such as this, for the first time, fashion and function go hand in hand.
So go on, grab your sneakers and prepare for your photo-op; this trend has me flashing back to Fashion Week…and that’s never a bad thing.
What’s your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I love crop tops and high-waisted skirts right now, but more than anything I’m obsessed with mix and matching. People wouldn’t necessarily expect tennis shoes and a skirt to go together, but I think there’s something sort of high fashion about it!”
