Ladies and gentlemen, I have some news for you: grunge is here to stay, whether you like it or not. While I personally have a love/hate relationship with the style, it’s undeniable that the grunge look has been making its way back over the past few years, and will definitely be popping up all throughout Chicago this spring.
Chokers, combat boots and oversized flannels are just a few staple pieces of the grunge look along with dark lipstick and fun buttons that make any denim jacket customizable.
This Fashionista did a fantastic job wearing a look that is extremely versatile and perfect for virtually any occasion for a college student like class, going to a concert or simply to go grab coffee. Her distressed denim jacket gives the look a casual feel and adds a pop of color to the black and red ensemble.
Pairing the flannel with a simple gray T-shirt allows for extra warmth in the brisk Chicago weather; you’d be surprised how cold it feels downtown when the sun disappears behind the skyscrapers. A tip to stay extra warm: invest in a pair of fleece-lined leggings.
If you’re not too much of a heel person, take a fashion risk and pair the look with a great pair of Nikes: athleisure is definitely on the rise, people! If Nikes aren’t your thing, a great pair of Converse can tie the look together, too.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Being from California, I’m extremely used it being much warmer year round than it is here in Chicago, so it’s really fun for me to be able to experiment with my style. I think two of my staples for spring are definitely jackets and booties, which are both perfect to break out for the warmer weather. I think the most important thing about getting dressed in the morning is feeling comfortable and confident in your appearance: wear whatever makes you feel great about yourself!”
