I’ve always been a fan of being fashionable and comfortable at the same time. Isn’t everyone? While I’ve never been exposed to the culture of urban streetwear from a young age, I’m definitely living and breathing it now. It’s the perfect combination of fashion forward and comfortable. Trends can range from edgy to chic by mixing and matching different pieces.
Recently, I’ve been investigating how women are changing the urban streetwear scene by effortlessly rocking staple pieces but in their own unique ways. The way they can take an article of clothing and play it up “à la Femme” is truly motivating. Take Rihanna for example, she is single-handedly becoming #goals to girls everywhere with her edgy, feminine take on streetwear. As far as rocking it, she is also changing the scene. Her collaborations with Puma have been nothing less than amazingly badass. Her take on streetwear is truly inspiring and I’m sure everyone will agree when I say she is my fashion idol!
Another Fashionista I take inspiration from is this girl right here. In this look, she paired a Nike tank with some comfy olive green trousers. The flowy beige duster vest adds a punch of girly, as does the choker. To amp up the look even further, she is wearing a pair of the white Converse All-Star II. When I asked her what drew her to urban streetwear, she told me that it provides great quality while maintaining a casual nature. And I agree with that 100 percent!
While the market is still geared towards appealing to men, who says that women can’t rock the same pieces? I definitely find myself shopping in the men’s section and thinking of ways to dress up the pieces in my own style. But that’s the best part of urban streetwear, it’s unisex. So how would you rock it?
