STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Stripes For Days

It’s finally spring time! It’s finally warm and it’s definitely time for sundresses, short shorts, skirts and all those clothes we love.

Stripes have been trendy for a long time now. It seems that a striped navy, black and white top has become a basic and it’s something everyone has in their wardrobe. However, wearing stripes in something else than a T-shirt might seem like too much for some people. What do you think? Would you wear other striped garments?

As you may know, stripes were a major trend this past couple of seasons, especially during spring/summer 2016. Designers featured them in every way you can think of: thick, thin, vertical, horizontal, black and white and colored. This trend keeps getting reinvented and honestly, I love it. Stripes make me think of: navy styles, boats, beach, tanning and sun. So when I saw this Fashionista on campus I thought she was the perfect representation of spring 2016. I kind of thought about that Train song, “she listens like spring and she talks like June, hey, hey, hey.”

So how do you wear stripes? You have probably heard from your mom before something like, “stripes make you look fat.” This might be true depending on how you wear them, though. My advice is to wear vertical stripes to look thinner and longer; however, break free of that fear of looking fat by wearing horizontal stripes. Try wearing narrower stripes in black and white instead of really thick and bold ones.

You can wear a dress like this in so many ways. With sandals, gladiators, flats and wedges there are so many options. You can even layer a colored cardigan on top in the evening if it gets chilly and even wear it to the beach with a straw hat or a fedora.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Today I wore this dress because it was really hot outside. When you wear a dress you should feel comfortable and pretty in it, otherwise it’s not going to work.”
